There will be a memorial Mass for Fr. Michael Hutchings at Holy Cross Church, Catford on Friday, 1st September 8.00pm. Fr. Michael did some supply work here at St. Teresa’s and he died in Uruguay a few weeks ago. May he rest in peace.
Will host a Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in the Echo Arena, Liverpool, 7 – 9 September 2018. This is a national pastoral initiative based on the centrality of the Eucharist. The ‘pilgrimage’ aspect denotes the faith journey of the individual person.
Who is invited? Parish representatives, catechists, extraordinary ministers, RE leaders, clergy, religious orders, seminarians, hospital and prison chaplains, who are all pastorally involved and on the front line of evangelisation. The Southwark Diocese can sent 570 delegates. Each parish can select, finance and send two representatives. Each school can send one representative. What is a Eucharistic Congress? This is an ecclesial gathering of lay and ordained people from each diocese in England & Wales. Participants will take part in a series of Catechism sessions, focusing on different dimensions of the Eucharist. This is a very positive opportunity for prayer, theological reflection and discernment. The Christian people are often depicted as a boat, with Peter at the helm. Without Jesus the disciples were getting exhausted, frustrated and probably bad-tempered and quarrelling. When Jesus appears everything changes: first, terror and awed amazement, then Peter rushes to meet him – and loses confidence, only to be swiftly rescued.
How does Jesus come to me? In the joys of family? In the unwelcome criticism of an angry neighbour who tells me the truth about myself? In the worries of a job or the agonies of a failed relationship? In the staggering beauty of creation? In physical pain? In all these situations we may discover God’s presence, and without that presence we cannot expect to cope. Jesus does not force himself upon us. He just jogs us, and says, "Here l am if you want me." He may disappear into the sea-mist again for a time, and we may sink into the water like mistrustful Peter. But it all ends with a welcome and a recognition that Jesus can help, even in a life-threatening situation. Why is Peter such a good role-model for us? Dom Henry Wansbrough OSB To Barbara Stasiak and Kevin Plicio who celebrated their wedding at St. Teresa’s over the weekend. We wish them every joy and happiness in the years ahead.
