Loving God, help us to be open to the freshness of your Spirit. Fill us with enthusiasm for the Good News. Invite us into a deeper relationship with your Son, Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist. Make us more aware of where there is need for new life. Help us to reach out to those who feel lost or abandoned, those who are searching and questioning, those who have walked away from you and those who are eager to know your love. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
One of the greatest symbols of the season. The 4 purple candles symbolise our Advent journey. The 1st candle represents the prophets of the Old Testament who foretold the coming of Christ. The 2nd is for John the Baptist, the central figure of Advent. The 3rd is for us, the people of God, the recipients of the Good News. The 4th is for Mary, the Mother of the Redeemer. The central white candle represents Jesus himself the source and summit of our journey. Please remember Sister Canisius who died recently. Sister was a Head Teacher at St Teresa’s School for many years. May she rest in peace.
Please be aware of the times of services of Christmas and New Year. This year, Christmas Day falls on Monday so we will have two successive days of celebration. New Year’s day is also on a Monday and we hope to have a community Mass and shared lunch at 12noon that day. If anyone would like to help, please inform the parish office or sign your name and phone number on the list in the Narthex. Many thanks.
This will take place 7 – 9 September and involves all 22 dioceses in England and Wales. The 3 days will be an exploration and celebration of the Eucharist – inviting everyone to reflect on how we engage with this sacred event. We are now asked to pray – during Advent – so that we can all help to prepare the way for this unique moment in our spiritual journey. The last Eucharistic in this country was in London in 1908. So this event is a moment in history.
