Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in all of our lives, but they often work in difficult, hazardous conditions. In the last year, more crews have been abandoned by their employers than ever before. Many are still being denied the right to leave their ships for even a short break away from the relentless noise and pressure onboard. Many are reporting more stress and poorer mental health. Sea Sunday is Sunday 9th July. It is when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Your support will make a big difference to seafarers and fishers in need. You can donate in church, by visiting www.stellamaris.org.uk/donate, or by texting ‘SEA’ to 70460 to donate £5. This collection is vital to enable Stella Maris (formerly called Apostleship of the Sea) to continue its important work - so please give generously. Thank you.
Peter’s Pence is the name given to the financial support offered by the faithful to the Holy Father as a sign of their sharing in the concern of the Successor of Peter for the many different needs of the Universal Church and for the relief of those most in need.
It was with great sadness that we learnt the news of Baroness Margaret McDonagh RIP who passed away a few days ago. The parish of Saint Teresa send their heartfelt condolences to her sister Siobhain McDonagh MP, her family and friends as they mourn the loss of their beloved Margaret. Both Margaret and Siobhain had strong connections with the parish and primary school over the years and their faith shines through their political careers and dedication to the nation. May Margaret Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory. Over recent years we have had the honour of Baptising a good number of children and adults. Our 11am Sunday Mass today is a chance of welcome back those children and their families.
Our parish would like to host a Mass of Thanksgiving for the gift of your child. TODAY, Sunday 2nd July 11am, we invite parents Godparents and family to join us for our Mass. A special medal will be blessed and given to all children baptised during these past few years. We remember Baptism is a sacrament and, by water and the Holy Spirit, marks the start of our Christian faith journey. We seek to bless your family as you all endeavour to follow the Light of Christ. To mark this Parish Day of Thanksgiving a little parish reception will be held in our hall – a VERY LARGE cake will be blessed and offered to one and all. Last Sunday you were Confirmed and received the Holy Spirit, but this is not the end of your journey, it is just the beginning! Our parish family sends you our love and blessing. Saint Teresa, the Saints you chose for your Confirmation Name want you to now open your heart to Jesus. The Lord, wants each of you to grow in our wonderful faith each day for the rest of your life. With Jesus, we invite you to be involved in the life of the parish and in doing so be witnesses to others.
At last Sunday’s Confirmation Mass, we mentioned that many opportunities within the parish, the diocese and the wider Church are available to for you to be more involved. For example: Ministry of Welcome, Hospitality, Reading at Mass, Preparing Bidding Prayers and even reading them out at Mass, the Offertory, helping with the Parish Mass Collection, Music, playing instruments, join a choir, Announcements at Mass, Social Action, Maintenance – cleaning, gardening flower arranging, Altar Servers, and even Master of Ceremonies, supporting the Parish Office. How about offering to support next year’s Confirmation Programme – become a Soul Friend? Would you like to support the younger children in our First Holy Communion Programme, become a junior Catechist? Please let us know if you are interested. A sincere word of thanks to all our Parish Catechists and all that they do for our Sacramental Programmes; RCIA, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Without you are parish Sacramental life would not exist – so, THANK YOU ALL! |
