Thank you so much for your generosity this Lent Fast Day, and special thanks to those who took part in the Walk Against Hunger. All your efforts really make a difference, and in fact, with your help, we were able to raise over £300,000 to help those struggling with hunger. We also deeply appreciate your contribution to our Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, and your continued support for the people affected by the war. We’ve raised over £2.7 million for the Appeal so far. You can read about how the funds are being used by Caritas and other CAFOD Partners on our Ukraine news webpage. Thank you again!

Between 28 May – 2 June 1982, Pope John Paul II visited the UK: it was more than 400 years since a Pope had set foot on British soil! During this historic tour of the British Isles, he visited St George's Cathedral, Southwark, to anoint the sick, as well as the Polish Community at Crystal Palace and the Religious at Roehampton. There were sixteen sites visited in this short period of time, with many thousands of people blessed along the way.
The Cathedral will be hosting an exhibition in the period 16 – 30 May about the historical visit of St John Paul II to St George’s. All are welcome to visit.
As part of this celebration, Archbishop John Wilson will also celebrate Mass at 12,30 pm on 28th May 2022 to mark the fortieth anniversary of the visit of St John Paul II to the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George. During this celebration, the sacrament of anointing of the sick will be administered, as it was on the occasion of St John Paul II’s visit.
