The death in our family was the result of suicide. Is it possible to have a Christian funeral in such circumstances?

It is true that in the past there were difficulties over Christian burial following suicide. Today no such problem exists. Indeed the Church now makes special provision among her prayers for such a situation. Rightly the presumption is that the person had reached such a distressed state that they were not responsible for his or her actions. The matter is left calmly and confidently in the hands of God, and the Church will also take great care to minister to the family and friends, who may be particularly traumatised because of the circumstances.
