For the 8th successive year, St. Winefride’s Wimbledon is hosting Merton Winter Night Shelter on Thursday nights. Merton Winter Night Shelter is a project involving YMCA London South West and nearly 20 faith groups in the Merton area. The Night Shelter project provides people who sleep rough in the Merton area with healthy homemade food, a warm and dry place to sleep and a friendly atmosphere where the can relax over the winter months. St. Winefride’s will be hosting the shelter every Thursday night from Thursday 29th November to Thursday 17th January apart from Thursday 27th December when Crisis at Christmas will provide accommodation and meals. St. Winefride’s need volunteers to cook the food and help in the shelter during the evening. They also need people to arrive at 9.00pm and stay overnight. The night shift hands over to the breakfast shift at 6.30am and everyone leaves by 8.00am. There are usually one or two Polish speakers attending and any Polish speakers who would be willing to come along and help for a couple of hours in the evening would be most welcome. You don’t have to commit to every week, just once or twice over the period the shelter is running. The YMCA will be running a Training and Information session from 3.00pm to 5.00pm on Sunday 18th November in the Café at the YMCA. If you would like to be involved, email Bronagh Preston at St. Winefride’s Parish or Paul Carter.
